This famous prayer, written by poet James Dillet Freeman of the Unity movement, was carried by Col. James "Buzz" Aldrin on the very first flight to the moon!
The light of God surrounds us;
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us;
Wherever we are, God is!
May the Light of God surround you;
Love enfold you;
Power protect you;
Presence watch over you;
Wherever you are, God is,
and all is well
May God be with you and bless you.
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortunes
and rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
from this day forward.
Adapted from The Book of Common Prayer (Episcopal)
May your love for each other
be a seal upon your hearts,
a mantle about your shoulders,
and a crown upon your foreheads.
May you be blessed with wisdom and devotion
in your mutual partnership
that you each may be to the other
a strength in need,
a counselor in perplexity,
a comfort in sorrow,
and a companion in joy.
May you practice grace in your moments of failure,
to recognize and acknowledge your faults,
and to seek each other's forgiveness.
May your wills may be so knit together
that your unity may overcome estrangement,
your compassion heal guilt,
and hope conquer despair.
May you be fulfilled in abiding affection,
that you reach out in love and concern for others.
and may all married persons who have witnessed these vows
find their lives strengthened and their loyalties confirmed.
May you live as long as you wish,
and love as long as you live!
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is offense, let me bring pardon.
Where there is discord, let me bring union.
Where there is error, let me bring truth.
Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, let me bring your light.
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
O Master, let me not seek as much
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love,
for it is in giving that one receives,
it is in self-forgetting that one finds,
it is in pardoning that one is pardoned,
it is in dying that one is raised to eternal life.
Lord, behold our family here assembled.
We thank you for this place in which we dwell,
for the love that unites us,
for the peace accorded us this day,
for the hope with which we expect the morrow,
for the health, the work, the food,
and the bright skies that make our lives delightful;
for our friends in all parts of the earth.
Advice from a Tree
by Ilan Shamir
Stand Tall and Proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The Wisdom to Let Go in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Earth, fresh air, light
Drink plenty of water
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!
Walk And Touch Peace
Thich Nhat Hahn
Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
Established as Priestly Blessing in Jewish tradition, regarded as Solemn Blessing #9 in Catholic tradition, and the inspiration behind the Vulcan Salute in the original Star Trek series, this ritual blessing is grounded in the text of Numbers 6:23-27:
May the LORD bless you and guard you –
May the LORD make His face shed light upon you and be gracious unto you –
May the LORD lift up His face unto you and give you peace –
Inspired by The Loirca of St. Patrick
Peace be with you and within you
behind, before, beneath, above.
Share peace with all:
friend, foe and stranger,
Be eyes and ears and hearts of love.
